At a Glance

Refined and elegant with hints of citrus, tropical melon, quince and spice. Its fresh, natural acidity and complex, mineral finish mean this wine competes with the best examples of Chardonnay from around the world. The grapes for Charlotte St were grown biodynamically on a beautiful south-facing limestone vineyard in the foothills of the Pyrenees, before being vinified in our London winery with long lees ageing in neutral oak barrels. Drink with juicy, slow-roasted chicken and pomme purée.

Tremendous oak integration – after tasting a slew of 2015 burgundies, this could stand proud alongside many of them. Rounded, fleshy, generous, perfumed and spiced. Long, intense finish with restrained fruit...17+

In Depth

The grapes for this Chardonnay were grown in the Limoux appellation of southern France – a rising star of the Languedoc region. The chalky, limestone vineyard is owned by local vigneron Maurice Clergue and sits in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Its slopes face south with fantastic exposure to the warm, southern French sun. When it came to harvest, the lack of organic matter in the vineyard’s soils coupled with the cooling, rolling winds from the Pyrenees meant the grapes were small and packed full of flavour. Their low sugars and high acids were absolutely perfect for an elegant Chardonnay. The fruit was gently pressed as whole bunches before fermentation in old French oak barrels using a mixture of Burgundian and ambient yeast. The wine was aged on gross lees, with a partial malolactic fermentation (turning the harsh, malic acid in the wine into soft, lactic acid). The finished product is integrated, stylish and persistent with a flinty finish.
