At a Glance

Nutty, fruity, complex – this wine is gorgeous. White peach and stone fruits dominate, with a subtle toastiness and heaps of fresh acidity. Made from ripe, plump Chardonnay grapes grown in sunny Roussillon, fermented in oak in London and aged on its lees. Drink with tarragon chicken and mushroom puff pastry pie, with garlicky, creamy sauce.

The grapes are grown here
Lovely complex nose of toast, spice and citrus, with some creaminess in the mouth, as well as nuts and toast. Broad and focused at the same time, this is a lovely wine. 92/100

In Depth

If anyone knows about growing grapes it’s the Jonquères d’Oriola family, owners of Château de Corneilla and winemakers for 28 generations. Not many winemaking families have history that can match up to theirs. The estate has been in the family since the 1400s, and as well as growing grapes and making wine the family boasts six Olympic gold medals in fencing. The vineyard for this Chardonnay sits in the foothills of the Pyrenees, benefitting from the combination of cool air that comes down from the mountains and the sea breeze that blows in from the Mediterranean. In the winery, the whole bunches were pressed then transferred to old barrels for fermentation with wild yeasts.
