At a Glance

This wine is intense and full-bodied, yet elegant and fresh with a black fruit core backed up by plenty of spice. The Syrah grapes were grown in breezy, high-altitude vineyards in central Spain and made into wine in London with ageing in neutral oak. Drink with pepper-crusted rump steak and béarnaise sauce.

The grapes are grown here
Seriously colourful. Meaty and peppery and lifted. World class fragrance. There’s no reason this couldn’t compete with smart northern Rhône. And the technical achievement – grown in Spain, fermented in London – is a real testament to the vision of the producer. 17 points

In Depth

The grapes for this Syrah were grown on wonderful, high altitude vines in the beautiful hills of Aragón in Calatayud. The vineyard sits 900m above sea level, on a soil bed of decomposed granite which is excellent at retaining and then emitting heat from the long, warm days as the cool evenings set in. In the winery we included whole bunches of grapes in the fermentation, allowing the stems to help build a balanced tannic structure. After a nine day fermentation the juice was pressed and sent to rest for three days before it was aged in barrel.
