At a Glance

This is a concentrated wine, full of delicious blackcurrant character and notes of white pepper, liquorice and dried herbs. The grapes for this wine hail from an organic vineyard 950m above sea level in the region of Calatayud, where altitude helps to temper the hot Spanish sun bringing natural freshness and elegance to the wine. Vinified in our SW6 winery and aged in French oak barrels. Try it with smoky lamb chops and chargrilled aubergine.

Stunning fruit – simply gorgeous and sumptuous, with layers of juicy blueberry flavour...Has substance and chewy tannin to last too – incredibly serious stuff. Accomplished, generous, delicious. Really impressive.

In Depth

The grapes for this wine were grown in the north of the Sierra de la Viergen mountain range in Calatayud, Spain, on a south-facing sloping vineyard at 950m altitude. The soil is loose gravel, with galet-style pudding stones and very little organic matter which helps to keep the yield low and the fruit concentrated. After hand-sorting and cold-soaking the grapes were fermented with up to 40% whole bunches in every tank – the inclusion of the stems adds interesting aromatic qualities, as well as changing the tannic profile of the wine in subtle ways. Aged in a mixture of old and new French oak barrels for 10 months before bottling. The finished product has good acidity, silky smooth tannins and concentrated fruit which will ensure it drinks well for ten years or more.
