At a Glance

A beautifully aromatic style of wine with a quintessentially English profile. Aromas of elderflower and stone fruits mingle with cut grass and hedgerow in this wonderful summer wine which has a real depth of flavour alongside crisp acidity and a textured finish. The grapes were grown on vineyards in Kent and Essex, hand picked and gently pressed as whole bunches. Drink with a fresh goats cheese and walnut frisée salad.

Won highest-scoring 2016 vintage 'Bacchus' at the International Wine Challenge Awards 2017.

Elderflower and citrus ...an exemplar of the variety, with loads of floral character on the finish. 16pts

In Depth

The grapes for this Bacchus came from vineyards in the heart of the English countryside. Sandhurst Vineyard in Kent is sunny and warm; its low altitude means temperatures are kept nice and high, enabling the grapes to develop to full ripeness. Great Whitmans in Essex is a vineyard of rich clay weald soil, surrounded by forest which shelters the grapes from cooler temperatures and wind. To preserve the delicate aroma and freshness most of the juice was fermented in stainless steel, with 5% fermented in barrel to help build texture. The final product is floral, peachy and elegant: it is the definitive summer tipple.
