Reichensteiner 2021
Reichensteiner 2021
Rarely ever seen as a single varietal wine.
Nose: Bright citrus aromas of lemon zest and lime, complemented by subtle floral undertones. A savoury complexity emerges with hints of fresh thyme and a touch of smoky leather.
Palate: Crisp and refreshing, featuring vibrant flavours of green apple, juicy peach, and a touch of grapefruit. A gentle herbaceous quality enhances the wine’s layered character.
Food: Ideal with fresh seafood, zesty salads, sushi, and creamy goat cheese. The subtle savoury nuances also pair beautifully with light charcuterie, herb-infused dishes, and soft-ripened cheeses.
Reichensteiner, a Germanic grape, has earned its place as the fifth most widely grown grape variety in England. Known for thriving in cooler climates, it is often used as a blending grape but can shine as a single varietal in the right hands.
For this wine, we have chosen to showcase Reichensteiner as a single varietal. The grapes were sourced from Mersea Island in Essex, a region known for its cool maritime climate. Fermentation took place in 4th-use Premier Cru Burgundy barrels, followed by full malolactic fermentation to enhance the wine’s texture and depth. To further develop complexity, the wine was aged on its lees for six months, resulting in a polished and distinctive expression of Reichensteiner. Only 100 Bottles Remain.
